Why is “early treatment” recommended for some children?

In some cases preventative or interceptive care can:

1. Guide the jaws and erupting teeth into more favorable positions

2. Improve the growth and alignment of the jaws

3. Preserve space for the permanent teeth

4. Reduce the likelihood of fracturing protruding teeth.

Even if a problem is detected, Dr. Emrich may not recommend immediate treatment. Your child may then be placed on a recall schedule, so they can be examined every six months. For each patient who needs treatment, there’s an ideal time to begin in order to achieve the best results. The orthodontist is the specialist who has the knowledge to determine when the time is right.
